Course Equivalencies
One of the primary functions of the AGSC is to work hand-in-hand with the established discipline committees (faculty groups) to approve basic general studies courses for all of the public four-year institutions of higher education and the two-year college system in Alabama. When a course appears on an approved listing it simply means that it has been vetted through the AGSC and degree credit should be awarded upon transfer if the equivalent course is required in the transfer student's chosen major/program.
The public institutions of higher education in Alabama have all agreed to honor and accept the courses approved for transfer by the AGSC. In some cases, additional courses may be required depending on major requirements or accreditation mandates.

Attention: Community College Students
Two-year college students planning to transfer are strongly encouraged to obtain an Official Transfer Guide for their intended major before selecting courses. Do not choose AGSC-approved courses at random just because they meet general education requirements. While transferable, they may not apply to your specific degree. Alabama Transfers’ Official Transfer Guides outline the exact coursework needed for a smooth transition to a four-year university. Many programs require specific courses within Areas I–IV of the AGSC to ensure you are prepared for upper-level study and on track for graduation. Don’t leave your transfer to chance. Get your Official Transfer Guide before registering to make every credit count.
Attention: Four-Year University Students
Students planning to transfer from one four-year institution to another are strongly encouraged to print the Approved Course Listing for their current institution and meet with an academic advisor or transfer counselor at the institution they plan to attend. This will help verify how approved courses will apply toward their intended program or major. Unlike transfers from Alabama community colleges, Alabama Transfers does not provide Official Transfer Guides for four-year to four-year transfers. Because degree requirements vary significantly among universities and academic programs, it is the student's responsibility to confirm that the courses they complete at their current institution will transfer and satisfy degree requirements at their destination institution. Taking the time to verify course applicability before registering each semester can help prevent the loss of transfer credit and keep you on track toward completing your bachelor's degree.
